Category switch: Catherine Bonelli, a long-time fashion specialist, will bring her trademark dynamism and passion to the drinks world

Catherine Bonelli has been named Managing Director – Global Travel at UK drinks company Loch Lomond Group.

The very highly regarded and well-networked travel retail specialist was formerly Worldwide Travel Retail Director at Italian fashion house Paul & Shark, a position she had held from May 2014 until recently. Before that she spent almost seven years as International Travel Retail Director at Devanlay Lacoste.

Bonelli replaces André de Almeida who was recently appointed Managing Director of The Secret Garden Distillery (formerly The Old Curiosity Distillery) in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Loch Lomond Group offers a series of single malt and single grain expressions under the Loch Lomond label. Other brands include Ben Lomond gin, The Sassenach blended whisky, Forrit Hard Seltzer, and acclaimed Campbeltown single malt distillery Glen Scotia, whose 25 Year-Old expression has just been named ‘Best in Show’ at this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Loch Lomond whiskies are created by using long fermentation and then distillation in  unique straight neck stills as well as traditional spirit stills

Glen Scotia 25 Year Old was named best Scotch single malt whisky from Campbeltown, as well as the overall winner of the competition from 3,800 submissions and therefore the best whisky in the world in 2021, the company said.

Glen Scotia 25 Year-Old , which retails at £4,00 (US$550) duty paid, has taken out top honours against stiff rivalry in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Glen Scotia Distillery Master Distiller Iain McAlister said: “To receive such outstanding recognition and be awarded as ‘Best in Show’ at this prestigious competition is an honour, and a tremendous boost to the entire team here at Glen Scotia distillery. The Glen Scotia 25 Year-Old (70cl, 48.8% ABV) is a really outstanding whisky and has collected a number of prestigious awards over the years, but this has to be the absolute proudest moment for the distillery to date.”

Glen Scotia 15 Year-Old and Glen Scotia Harbour Single Malt picked up gold and silver medals respectively at the event, considered one of the world’s most prestigious spirits competitions.
